Campable (“Campable”, “we”) is run by 10ten Studio Inc., an independent studio in British Columbia, Canada. Questions: hello@10tenstudio.com.
Short version: Campable works out camping rules on your phone. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your location leaves your phone only if you switch on sharing or start a trip group.
What stays on your phone
- Your saved spots, trips, trip history, season milestones and settings.
- Your location, when you allow it, to centre the map and check the spot you are standing on. The camping rules are downloaded as general data and the answer is worked out on your device, so we are not told which spot you checked.
What leaves your phone
- Camper check-ins (off by default). If you switch sharing on and send a check-in, we receive the coordinates, the day, your answers about the road, gate and spot, and a random device ID. Check-ins are shown to others only as counts and dates for an area, and only once at least two different devices have reported there. You can delete everything your device has sent from the app’s settings.
- Trip groups. If you start or join a group, we store the trip name, its location and dates, the random device IDs of members and any alerts members add. Anyone with the group code can read the trip. Groups are deleted 14 days after the trip ends.
- Data downloads. The app downloads rules and conditions from our data servers. Like any web request, this shows your IP address to the host, which our host keeps in ordinary server logs.
- Campable Pro. Subscriptions are handled by Google Play and RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase status, and Google handles your payment details. We never see your card. See RevenueCat’s policy and Google’s.
Device ID and abuse limits
The random device ID is generated by the app, is not linked to your name, email, advertising ID or hardware, and is stored by us only as a salted hash. To limit spam we keep daily counters per hashed device and per hashed IP address; they are swept after the day ends.
How long we keep it
- Check-ins: up to 120 days, then dropped. Areas show reports from the last 90 days only.
- Trip groups: 14 days after the trip’s end date.
- Server logs: kept by our host for its normal short period.
Permissions
- Location: optional; the app works by searching or moving the map.
- Notifications: optional; for trip alerts you ask for.
- Internet: to download rules and conditions.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal information, show ads, track you across apps, or build a profile of you. Data we collect is stored on servers that may be outside Canada, including in the United States.
Your choices and rights
You can use Campable without sharing anything, delete your check-ins in the app, leave a group, or uninstall the app, which removes everything stored on your phone. You may ask us what we hold about a device ID, or to correct or delete it, under Canada’s privacy laws, by emailing us. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the BC Information and Privacy Commissioner.
Children
Campable is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
