Can I camp here this weekend?

Campable checks the land, the road in and today's fire bans, closures and evacuations for the exact spot and your dates. It gives you one answer, and shows where it came from.

Coming to Google Play first, iPhone after. Checking any spot is free.

Example answer
Good to camp
Crown land, a gravel road in and no fire bans or closures for your dates.
Your real answer depends on your spot and dates.

Five answers, and the reason for each

Every spot gets one answer for your dates, with the reason under it. Each has its own colour and pattern, so you can tell them apart in glare or with colour blindness.

Good to camp

The land is open to camping, a road gets you there and nothing is in force for your dates.

With conditions

Allowed, but read the notes first: a fire restriction, a rough road, or smoke in the forecast.

Can't confirm

We couldn't verify everything. It says which check is missing, so you know what to ask.

Re-check: the data is out of date, so look again before you goNot here: parks that don't allow it, closures, evacuations and private land

Be first to try it. Early sign-ups get invited to test Campable before launch.

It keeps watching after you leave

A fire ban can start overnight. Save your trip and Campable checks it again, then tells you if a ban, closure or evacuation changes the answer before you're on the road.

Tell it what you drive, a car, a high-clearance vehicle or a 4x4, with or without a trailer, and roads are judged for that. After the trip, three taps record how the road, the gate and the spot were.

Sharing with other campers is off unless you switch it on.

What every answer checks

Each answer shows what it found, where it came from and how old it is.

  • AllowedCrown land, provincial parks, private parcels, reserves and towns, from ParcelMap BC and BC parks and protected-area data.
  • ReachablePublic roads, resource roads and tracks, and highway closures, with your vehicle in mind.
  • Right nowFire bans, area restrictions, evacuation orders, wildfires, park advisories, smoke and weather warnings, for your dates.
  • Avalanche dangerAvalanche Canada's rating, shown as context so you can read the full forecast. It never changes the answer by itself.

Know before you drive out

Most of BC's Crown land is open to camping, but parks, reserves and private land follow their own rules, and every area has its own fire rules. Campable puts the three checks on one screen and says plainly when it can't tell.

Pick your dates and the answer follows them, so a weekend you can camp this month isn't assumed to be good next week.

Pro: plan every trip

Trip WatchQuiet spotsPlan B and offline brief

Trip Watch re-checks every trip you save and tells you if the answer changes. Free covers one trip.

Quiet spots finds flat Crown land near water with a usable road, as areas to explore rather than exact pins.

Plan B and the offline brief show nearby options if a spot fails, and keep a stamped copy of your check on your phone for when the signal goes.

The lines Campable doesn't cross

Campers guard their favourite spots, and the rules that protect the land. So does the app.

It isn't a permit

A clear answer is what the public data says, with the source. It is never permission to camp, so it tells you who to confirm with.

Your location stays yours

Checks run on your phone, with no account and no ads. Location is only sent if you switch on camper check-ins or start a trip group.

It won't hide what it doesn't know

When a check can't be made or the data is stale, it says Can't confirm or Re-check. It never rounds up to Good to camp.

Questions

Is Good to camp a guarantee?

No. It means the land, the road and today's conditions all check out for your dates. You're responsible for closures, land ownership, permits and what you find on the ground.

Where does the data come from?

ParcelMap BC, BC parks and protected areas, the BC Digital Road Atlas and OpenStreetMap, DriveBC, BC Wildfire Service, Emergency Management BC, Avalanche Canada and Environment Canada. See Data sources.

Do I need signal?

Live conditions such as fire bans need a connection, and the app tells you how old they are. Campable Pro adds an offline brief you can keep on your phone.

Is my location shared?

Only if you switch on camper check-ins or start a trip group. Checks run on your phone. See the Privacy Policy.

Is there an iPhone version?

Google Play comes first and the iPhone version follows. Join the early access list, pick iPhone, and we'll tell you when it's ready.

Who makes Campable?

10ten Studio Inc., an independent studio in British Columbia, which also makes Huntable, Fishable and Pickable. We camp, and we got tired of finding the gate locked or the ban on.
